Laboring for the Good of Our Soul

How are we to labor? There is but one answer. We must labor in the use of all appointed means.
We must read our Bibles, like men digging for hidden treasure.
We must wrestle earnestly in prayer, like men contending with a deadly enemy for life.
We must take our whole heart to the house of God, and worship and hear like those who listen to the reading of a benefactor's will.
We must fight daily against sin, the world, and the devil, like those who fight for liberty, and must conquer, or be slaves.
These are the ways we must walk in if we would find Christ, and be found of Him. This is laboring. This is the secret of getting on about our souls.

  1. The phrase about wrestling earnestly in prayer is convicting. I think I'm often praying like someone swatting at a lion with a rolled up newspaper. I need to make prayer more of a priority. I appreciate you sharing this.

  2. I was just listening to a song today that mentioned fighting a fight that will always need to be fought. How true this is while we're here, and praise God for the strength and grace He gives us to press on.

Your comments are such a blessing to me.

"Let us hold fast the confession of our hope without wavering, for he who promised is faithful. And let us consider how to stir up one another to love and good works, not neglecting to meet together, as is the habit of some, but encouraging one another, and all the more as you see the Day drawing near.
